We wanted to keep you updated on the rollout of the new Concrete Pumping strands under the New Zealand Certificate in Concrete (Specialist) Level 4.

Following BCITO’s internal discussions and planning, the decision has been made to push out enrolments slightly. This is largely to ensure we take a measured and well-prepared approach, particularly around building internal capability and setting up consistent, industry-aligned assessment processes.

At this stage, the anticipated go-live date is August.

This is largely due to a few dependencies, including the completion of the ERP (Experience Recognition Process) / RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) review, which we’ve been advised should be ready by then. We’re conscious that there will be strong interest in the ERP pathway, so we’re taking the time to ensure the structure and processes are well set up ahead of launch.

While there is strong interest from industry, it’s important we get the foundations right first - especially given the nature of the work, the reliance on evidence from practice, and the limited number of assessors currently experienced in this space.

Over the coming period, Workplace Learning teams will be working closely with key industry experts to help shape the approach. This includes engaging with experienced operators and businesses to ensure what we develop is practical, realistic, and aligned with how work is actually carried out on site. Their input will be critical in guiding assessment expectations, evidence requirements, and overall delivery. The current intent is to target a more considered start once capability, guidance, and training are in place.

While there is a delay, we can assure you it’s being handled with care to ensure it's right for the concrete pumping industry.
